S.P.A. Life Principles

Modeled after the programs and services you find at many of the most exclusive, luxury destination spas, you can think of the S.P.A. Life as your online program guide to help you create your very own destination spa and transform your lifestyle.

But, unlike most destination spas, living the S.P.A. Life means your spa experiences:

·  Can last however long you need or want them to

·  Are self-directed

·  Won’t cost you an arm and a leg

“A destination spa is a facility with the primary purpose of guiding individual spa-goers to develop healthy habits. Historically, a 7-day stay, this lifestyle transformation can be accomplished by providing a comprehensive program that includes spa services, physical fitness activities, wellness education, healthful cuisine, and special interest programming.”

- ISPA (International Spa Association)

The foundational premise for living the S.P.A. Life is that doing so should cost nothing - or very nearly. The S.P.A. Life is grounded in everyday practices and attitudes, not necessarily the buying of goods or services. (So, I guess I won’t be getting any product sponsorships any time soon!)

I will share with you my personal thoughts on living the S.P.A. Life, reviews of products and services, and connect you to the world wide web of self-care and wellness ideas that lend themselves to DIY. Then, it’s up to you to take your spa experiences wherever you want them to go, on whatever you can afford!

The Four S.P.A. Life Principles

  • Principle #1: Care

Caring for your body, mind, and spirit to ensure health, wellness, and happiness - you know, what we usually think of when we think of spa experiences.

  • Principle #2: Create

Creating a new, elevated approach to your everyday activities through mindfulness, or learning something new, or doing what feeds your soul.

  • Principle #3: Connect

Connecting to yourself, to others, to nature, and to organizations or causes that are larger than yourself for support and community.

  • Principle #4: Cost

Knowing that cost isn’t an obstacle to living the S.P.A. Life! Following the first 3 principles can cost almost nothing, so you can do it!

Applying the S.P.A. Life principles

Applying the four S.P.A. Life principles to your everyday tasks so that you can transform your daily routines into revitalizing spa experiences is easy! Just ask yourself:

What can I do while [doing activity] to + [select principle]?

Let’s take a day-in-the-life example: Coming home from work or school.

Principle #1: What can I do while driving or riding home to care for my spirit?

Possible answer: Listen to your favorite, relaxing music.

Principle #2: What can I do while driving or riding home to use this time creatively?

Possible answer: I can listen to a French music station to help me learn French.

Principle #3: What can I do while driving or riding home to connect with others around me?

Possible answer: I can smile at the person beside me and let them go first.

And just like that, you’re living the S.P.A. Life - and it didn’t have to cost you a dime (principle #4)!

Hopefully, occasionally, you will be able to treat yourself to professional spa services, which I heartily recommend, and you absolutely deserve. But in the meantime, by applying these four principles, you’ll soon find your daily life transformed into a real-time destination spa program as you live the S.P.A. Life!
